Starting on May 8th
The Big Help Out is a national community volunteering initiative. To mark His Majesty The King’s Coronation, thousands of charities and not-for-profit groups across the country are coming together to raise awareness of volunteering opportunities available within local communities and increase participation in volunteering.
Starting on Monday 8th May, members of the public are being invited to discover a volunteering role available from over 15,000 charities nationwide including well known charities like Samaritans, Guide Dogs, Scouts, Girlguiding and thousands of smaller local groups.
The Big Help Out campaign hopes to bring communities together to celebrate and champion volunteering not only over the Coronation weekend but via a long-lasting legacy which increases volunteer participation and inspires a new generation of volunteers.

The Big Help Out will highlight the positive impact volunteering can have on individuals, groups and the wider communities. The campaign focuses on three key benefits which are:
- Wellbeing: Those who volunteer have shown to score higher on wellbeing
- Connectedness: Those who volunteer report greater social connection with family and friends.
- Employability: Those who volunteer credit volunteering with improving their job chances.
