Girlguiding Norfolk has launched its special badge to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. A STEM- themed challenge, it features sections based on The King’s name representing an aspect of The King’s life, work and interests:
C – Conservation (with a focus on the animal world)
H – Horticulture
A – Architecture
R – Repair and Restore
L – Light(s)
E – Environment
S – Sustainability
Recruitment Campaign
With the additional bank holiday for the Coronation and the link to the national ‘Big Help Out’, Girlguiding Norfolk also took the opportunity to join in with Anglia Region’s recruitment campaign on Monday 8 May. It was the first of several planned region recruitment events in 2023.
They offered 45 members in the region an opportunity to abseil 13 meters down The Forum in Norwich (in Girlguiding uniform). Spaces for the abseil were allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Several participants were featured on the radio and some made it to both local and national television, while one volunteer was presented with her Queen’s Guide Award on the roof.
Also at the Forum event, the Girlguiding Norfolk Archive Resource Centre provided typewriters for Brownies to write a telegram to The King. Trefoil Guild members helped them type and taught them how to load the paper as well as return the carriage, correct mistakes and type without jamming the keys.
Hethersett Brownies displayed their inventive ideas linked to the Coronation Challenge, assisted by dedicated volunteers (below):
And of course, there was also a postbox topper on display, with a photo of an amazing one (below right) created by volunteer Caroline Flatt and on display in Hethersett.
